CORTEZ, CO Southwestern Colorado may be best known for such national treasures as Mesa Verde National Park, two national monuments and two national scenic byways, but amid stunning scenery, ninth-century Native American pueblos, and breathtaking views of the San Juan Mountains lies a real golfing gem.
Conquistador Golf Course - With 18 holes over 6,852 yards, the championship Par 72 course in the town of Cortez rates four stars by Golflink. Conquistador caries a course rating of 69.5 and a slope of 113 from the back tees, and features sand bunkers, water hazards, a full driving range and a putting green. From almost any spot on the course which sits at 6,200 feet golfers have spectacular views of the La Plata Mountains, Mesa Verde National Park and Sleeping Ute Mountain. Best of all, green fees remain less than $30. A PGA Golf Pro is on staff and lessons are available. The golf course offers a special Cortez Lodging 2 Fore 1 Golf Pass, Mondays - Fridays, from April 2011 - October 2011 (Weekend use only if space is available.) Visitors staying at least one night in a Cortez lodging facility, receive one free round of golf for one person, when the second person pays full price. Proof of stay must be provided when booking Tee Times.
